Barbados

As always, I had a wonderful time on my family's annual trip to Barbados. It was a very relaxing holiday, mostly spent on the beach playing volleyball.

The highlight of our trip was the day we chartered a private catamaran from Silver Moon. Their staff was amazing, fun, and had a great sense of humor. They served us a fantastic lunch and the drinks were flowing throughout the day.

We were even able to jump off the catamaran and snorkel with some adorable sea turtles.

I've been to Barbados six or seven times now and being out on the catamaran is hands down the most memorable day of the trip.  It is the perfect way to soak up the bright blue water and sunshine.

Another great excursion is off-roading with Island Safari. It is a unique way to visit the island and take in the terrain. You will also learn about the history of Barbados and visit several different landmarks.

Tips:

Even though its highly rated on Tripadvisor and locals will tell you to go, skip Harrison's Cave! It is boring and not worth the time or energy to get there.

Renting a car is easy but driving around the island is not. Traffic and roundabouts can be confusing. If you want to explore the island, efficiently, I recommend hiring a driver to take you.

The food in Barbados is pretty disappointing; overpriced and mediocre.  The best meal I had was at Apsara Sumdra, an Indian/Thai restaurant that has a lovely ocean front patio.  Besides eating at Apsara, I sustained myself on fresh coconut and avocados from local street vendors.
